Because of our previous postings for Jamie's work, I've been unable to confirm my availability in one place long enough to be around for both a couple's engagement AND wedding. Until this one. So this is a big deal to me :) I received the below email from Cheryl in May, 2012:
"Hi Kate! Funny story for you... My boyfriend Matt has heard me say for the longest time now that you are the only photographer I will have when I get engaged and/or married. I hardly ever shut up about it. He knew that no matter the price, at some point we would either have to take a trip to Newfoundland, or get you here! (here really being anywhere in nb or pei). Then, after he proposed on Saturday after about 7 years - YAY!! - he made me laugh out loud when he relaxed and said, "there, maybe you can catch your photographer." I think I'll keep him. I guess by now you can probably see where I'm going with this! No pressure of course, I know you're on vacation, but I just have to ask... is there any time you could possibly squeeze us in?"
Well if that's not the best compliment, I don't know what is! Obviously, even if I had no spaces left, I would have MADE space. Thankfully everything worked out perfectly, including the weather, and we were able to meet in Fredericton for their engagement shoot in Summer 2012. If you missed it, check out some shots from their engagement session here.
In my mind, I like to think Matt and Cheryl chose their wedding date just to make me happy (hey, it could happen!), seeing as how it happened to be just after I had moved back to NB from Labrador...meaning I was able to photograph their gorgeous wedding day!
If I was to start detailing all the things I adore about this wedding, this post would never be finished. Matt and Cheryl had a beautiful summer day, a picture-perfect location (her parent's cottage!), and details I'm still drooling over, like the pale grey and pink bridesmaids' bouquets. I think now I'll just stop typing, and let you look at all the gorgeousness :)

That right there? That's a super chill bride. Which makes for an awesome morning of pictures!
I want these shoes. It wouldn't matter that I have no-place to wear them. I'd wear them in my house, while wearing sweatpants and doing laundry. I don't care...I just want them.
Ok, let's talk about the flowers. I am SO very much in love with these arrangements...specifically, the colours! The greys and pale pinks. SIGH. Can I have a re-do on my own wedding now, and use colours like this ;)
I have so.much.love. for the below shot.
PEI sand mixed with NB sand = pretty.
Obligatory jumping shot of awesomeness.
This is why taking the groomsmen shots is always quick and easy: They know that after they pose nicely like this...
...and this...
...they'll be able to NOT smile for just one shot (except some of them still will)...
...and they'll be allowed to do things like this (there MAY have been some butt-pinching going on. I'm not sure.).
And this.
And finally, after all their hard work, they'll get to chill on top of the lifeguard station while it's the girls' turn.
Ahhh...swoon.
Next, we found an uncut wheat field for a few more bridal and "groomal" shots before heading back to the reception!
FYI: If you ever find yourself standing at the base of a monster windmill (and if you know the Western PEI windmills, then you know I'm not exaggerating with the use of the word, "monster"!), don't look straight up at it. Especially if you're also 7 months pregnant. You'll either get sick, or almost get sick, or tip over, or find yourself enjoying the view until you realize that you're "bobble-heading" along with it's rotations and now have a massive headache.
Oh, those stunning birch centrepieces? Those are paper flowers...that Cheryl MADE. For each table. And I'm so glad she did, because what a pretty picture this makes ;)
Matt and Cheryl: The below shot is potentially my favourite shot of the two of you from your wedding day, so I thought it was a good one to end on! Thank you for being so beautiful, and beaming, and full of joy. I wish you both every happiness, and hope you enjoy your photos as much as I enjoyed capturing them! xoxo
